Anne Enright, 45, the little-known Irish female writer, wins the Man Booker Prize 2007 for her book, "The Gathering," ousting the favourite man in fray, Llyod Jones. Like previous years, again the significance of the prestigious prize is going/supposed to be questioned as well as criticised for selecting unreadable writers over the one favourite in fray and more popular.
On a positive note, the significant and startling fact about this year’s Booker Prize is that all the shortlisted novels are going to be placed online, most surprisingly - free of cost- which means that all the novels shortlisted can be downloaded and read by everybody living in any part of the world. This must be great news for literature enthusiasts across the globe, especially readers from Africa and Asia, where the original print of these books cost a heap.
